Tá difícil!
Todo esse tempo eu tenho tentado acrescentar coisas novas ao que eu já sei - a saber, os "embelezamentos" dos quais falei - mas parece que a coisa não anda. Tá certo, eu não tenho praticado tanto quanto deveria, mas pelo menos alguma coisa eu já deveria ter conseguido.
Ademais, meu tinwhistle já não me ajuda muito. Apesar de ter somente 11 meses de uso, o som já não é mais o mesmo, e isso às vezes atrapalha; a música não sai legal.
Preciso comprar um tinwhistle novo, um Generation niquelado ou um Walton's Little Black D, talvez. Enquanto isso não acontece, vou seguir em frente com o meu "velho" Claire mesmo. :)

Tin whistle XIV (English)

It's been difficult!
Through all this time I have tried to add up new things to what I already know - namely, the "embelishments" I talked about - but it seems things don't work out. Alright, I haven't practiced as much as I should, but I should have succeeded in at least one or two things.
What is more, my tinwhistle doesn't help me much anymore. In spite of having played it only for 11 months, the sound is no more the same, and that's a nuisance sometimes; the tune doesn't sound good.
I need to buy a new tinwhistle, a nickel-plated Generation or a Walton's Little Black D, maybe. While that doesn't happen, I'll go on with my "old" Claire anyway. :)

Olá! Fazia um bom tempo que não postava, mas aqui estou de novo. De qualquer maneira, eu não tive muito a escrever nessas semanas, porque não havia nenhuma novidade. Eu dissera que escolhera diversas novas melodias para aprender a tocar, mas a verdade é que eu estacionei nas melodias que aprendera nos primeiros meses, então não há novidade. Também, eu desanimei um pouco porque aprender ornamentações tem sido difícil, e apesar de eu não ter parado de tocar, eu tinha consciência de que precisava avançar no meu aprendizado. De qualquer maneira, espero poder lhes contar novidades muito em breve! Continuem visitando este blog!

Hello! Long time no post, but here I am again. In any case, I had nothing to write about these weeks, because there was no novelty. I'd said I'd chosen several new tunes to learn, but the truth is that I stagnated on the songs I'd learnt throughout the first months, so there's no news. Also, I somewhat lost the will to play because learning ornamentations has been so difficult, and although I haven't stopped playing, I was conscious that I needed to advance in my learning. Anyway, I hope I can tell you news very soon! Please keep on coming back to this blog!

Tá bom, eu não sabia que se podia polir coisas de metal com creme dental. Daí, eu comentei com minha mãe:
- Preciso comprar um líquido polidor de metais, pra polir meu tinwhistle.
Então ela disse:
- Mas você pode fazer isso com pasta de dente.
Na hora eu não acreditei, mas hoje eu resolvi testar. E não é que funcionou?! Aliás, funcionou tanto que meu tinwhistle, que não tem pintura por cima do metal, ficou brilhando como novo. Não, melhor, brilhou mais do que quando era novo! Todas as marcas de dedos e do tempo sumiram.
É como dizem: "Vivendo e aprendendo..."

Tin whistle XI (English)

Alright, I didn't know that one could polish metal things with toothpaste. So I said to Mom:
- I need to buy a metal polisher to polish my tinwhistle.
Then she said to me:
- You can do that with toothpaste.
I didn't believe it at that very moment, but today I felt like giving it a try. And it worked! By the way, it worked so well that my tinwhistle, which received no painting over the brass, shined like it was brand-new! Better yet, it was brighter than when it was brand-new. All the finger marks and those caused by time and use are now gone.
That's why one says, "Living and learning..."

Faz um mês que eu fiz a última postagem. Nesse mês, eu somente pratiquei mais as músicas que aprendera até agora. Neste fim de semana, escolhi algumas músicas novas para aprender, ou melhor, escolhi duas novas, porque duas delas eu já escolhera há um certo tempo, entre elas a tão mencionada "The trip to Sligo". Eu cheguei a tocá-la, mas ainda tenho muito que praticar.

I posted for the last time a month ago. In that month I only practiced the tunes I'd learned so far. This weekend, I chose two pairs of new tunes to learn, I mean, two new tunes, because two of them I'd already chosen a certain time ago, being among them the so-mentioned "The trip to Sligo". I even played it for a while, but I have much to practice on it yet.

Shortly ago I made a new recording of "Old hag". It took a lot of time but it's here. =] It's a pity that my tinwhistle's sound isn't the same of when I bought it anymore, but it's good still. Of course, the tune is not identical note by note; as I've said, I've got so much to learn yet, particularly as regards to ornamentation. Shortly ago I finished writing the tablature for "Old hag". It wasn't difficult; it took such a long time because I procrastinated. But now it is complete and I have just to make a fair copy of it. After that, I shall publish it here. Now I can practice the complete tune. :P

Ontem eu pratiquei bastante "Old hag" e consegui tocar bem a primeira parte (tá bom, não está idêntica à dos Corrs, mas acho que está boa o suficiente :P). Agora eu gravei uma mp3 e o link para o download está abaixo (clique sobre o nome). Também comecei a aprender "Return from Fingall". Por enquanto deixei "The trip to Sligo" de lado para treinar estas duas músicas.

Yesterday I practiced a lot on "Old hag" and I managed to play well its first part (ok, it's not identical to the Corrs' but I think it's good enough :P). Now I recorded an mp3 and the link for downloading it is right below (click on its name). I also started to learn "Return from Fingall". By now, I've put "The trip to Sligo" aside to practice on the two songs I've just mentioned.

Later I'll work on the second part of "Old hag" and I hope to record an mp3 with the complete song soon.

"Old hag" tem sido um pouco difícil de aprender. Pratico quase todos os dias, mas até agora só consegui tocar a primeira parte, ainda assim com muitos erros. Junto com ela, escolhi a música "The trip to Sligo" para aprender, e então estou praticando com essas duas melodias. Quando canso de uma, estudo um pouco a outra e vice-versa.

"Old hag" has been sort of difficult to learn. I practice almost everyday, but so far I can olny play its first part, still with many errors. With "Old hag" I chose "The trip to Sligo" to learn, and I've practiced with both. When I get tired of one, I study the other and vice-versa.

Hoje eu quis gravar uma mp3 de "The hens march to the midden" mas não consegui tocar sem erros para a gravação. Então, para dar um tempo dessa música, comecei a escrever as notas de "Old hag, you killed me" (The Corrs). Enquanto ouvia a música, reproduzia as notas no tinwhistle, para depois escrevê-las no papel. Sim, porque todas as partituras que vi até agora de "Old hag..." mostraram-se difícieis de seguir, já que eu só conheço as notas pelo sistema de letras.

Today I wanted to record an mp3 of "The hens march to the midden" but I couldn't play it without errors for the recording. So, to give a break to this song, I started to write the notes for "Old hag, you killed me" (The Corrs). While I listened to the song, I played the notes on the tinwhistle and then wrote them on the paper. Yes, because all the tablatures I've seen for "Old hag..." have shown themselves too difficult to follow, since I only know the letter system of notes.

Tin whistle V

Desde ontem eu estou praticando a música "Lough Erin shore", dos Corrs (minha banda favorita). Esta música é a faixa 12 do CD "Unplugged" e a 15 no "Forgiven, not forgotten". Já consigo tocá-la bem, mas ainda preciso corrigir alguns erros, principalmente no que diz respeito a tapar somente metade de um orifício do tinwhistle.

Since yesterday I'm practicing on "Lough Erin shore", by the Corrs (my favourite band). This song is the 12th track on the "Unplugged" CD and the 15th on the "Forgiven, not forgotten" CD. I already can play it aright but I must correct a few errors yet, particularly regarding to half-closing the holes of the tinwhistle.

Today I learned my first complete tune - because till now I came playing fragments of songs or something like that. The song is called "Siobhan Ni Dhuibhir", which makes part of the tutorial I received when I bought the tinwhistle.

Tin whistle III

Uma das primeiras coisas que você descobre quando aprende o tinwhistle (ou qualquer outra coisa) é que, se você não está conseguindo tocar algo, é melhor dar um tempo. Algum tempo depois você tenta de novo e consegue. Foi o que eu percebi de ontem para hoje.

Ontem eu não consegui passar de uma melodia básica. Hoje eu já pude tocar algo um pouquinho mais complicado. É só uma questão de prática. Cada dia pode-se descobrir coisas novas, e coisas que você tinha passado por alto noutra ocasião. Paciência é fundamental.

Não conseguiu tocar o que queria logo de cara? Pratique bastante, faça um intervalo, e comece de novo. Assim como eu fiz hoje.

Tin whistle III (English)

One of the first things you find out when you learn the tinwhistle (or anything else) is that, if you cannot play something, it's better to give it a little time. Some time later you try again and make it. That's what I realised today looking back on yesterday.

Yesterday I couldn't play more than a simple tune. Today I was able to play something a little more complex. It's just a matter of practice. Each day you can discover new things, and things that may have been unnoticed. Patience is fundamental.

Couldn't you play what you wanted right in the beginning? Give it much practice, have a break, and start again. That's what I did today.

Tin whistle II

Meu tinwhistle chegou hoje à tarde. Já comecei a praticar tão logo o tirei do pacote. Fiz a escala de D, A e G, e consegui tocar a introdução de uma música, ainda que com muitas falhas, mas isso é só uma questão de tempo.

O instrumento é como mostrado nesta foto, exceto pela boquilha, que é preta.

My tinwhistle arrived this afternoon. I began to practice right after I took it out of the package. I played the scales of D, A, and G, and managed to play the introduction of a song, notwithstanding many errors, but it's just a matter of time.

The instrument is just like this one of the picture (see the post above), except for the mouthpiece, which is black.

Tin whistle I

Comprei meu primeiro tin whistle. É um Clare Brass D. É fabricado pela Clare Whistles, em Co. Clare, Irlanda. Ele é afinado à clave de D (Ré), a mais comum para se tocar música irlandesa e céltica em geral. Deve chegar nos próximos dias.

Começarei a aprendê-lo imediatamente. Há vários sites que o ensinam na Internet, e também muitos métodos de fácil aprendizagem para os autodidatas.

Naturalmente, não conseguirei tocar determinada melodia tão rapidamente. Será necessário muito esforço e dedicação. É minha intenção relatar meu progresso neste blog, entre outras coisas.

Por agora isso é tudo. Nas minhas postagens, escreverei os links para os sites que consultar.

Tin whistle I (English)

I have bought my first tin whistle. It is a Clare Brass D. It is manufactured by Clare Whistles, in Co. Clare, Ireland. It is tuned in the key of D, the most common for playing Irish and Celtic music in general. It must arrive within the next days.

I will begin to learn it right away. There are several sites that teach it on the Internet, as well as many methods of easy apprenticeship for the self-taught.

Certainly, I will not be able to play a given song so quickly. It will be necessary much effort and dedication. It is my intention to write here about my progress, among other things.
